Install a Central Heating Towel Rail Radiator

Which Radiator Should I Buy?

Select a Size

If you're replacing your existing radiator, measure the pipe centre and match it with the product you want to buy. Most radiators have a pipe centre that is 45mm less than the overall width. For example, a 400mm wide radiator typically has a 355mm pipe centre. Always double-check the product description, as some models may differ.

Select a Finish — Chrome or Colour

Chrome towel rails will most likely match the finish of your bathroom brassware. However, Black, White, and Anthracite finishes offer higher BTU outputs, typically around 30% more. This is because powder coating transmits heat more effectively than chrome plating.

Select the Shape — Straight or Curved

Straight towel rails protrude less into your bathroom, while curved versions allow extra room for hanging towels. The difference in heat output between both shapes is negligible.

What Else Do I Need to Buy?

If you want to connect your radiator to a central heating system, you will need radiator valves.

Straight or Angled Valves?

If your pipework comes up from the floor, straight radiator valves are required. If your pipework comes out from the wall at an angle, angled radiator valves should be used.

TRV or Manual Valves?

Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) have a built-in temperature sensor that maintains the room at a constant temperature automatically. Manual radiator valves function like a tap — you turn the valve by hand to control the room temperature.

Installation Guide

Important: Radiators should be installed by a qualified plumber.

Step 1

Check that the wall is strong enough to support the weight of the towel rail. Mark your preferred bracket positions on the wall and drill holes for the fixings you intend to use. The supplied wall plugs have an 8mm diameter and are only suitable for solid walls. You will need alternative fixings for plasterboard or other wall types.

Step 2

Screw the bracket bases to the wall using the washers and wall screws provided, or alternative fixings suitable for your wall type.

Step 3

Loosely fit the bracket stems to the towel rail using the bracket fronts and bracket screws. Rotate the bracket stems as shown in the diagram below.

Step 4

Align the bracket stems with the bracket bases and push the towel rail back into position.

Step 5

Tighten the central bracket screws securely with a screwdriver.

Step 6

Insert the mini screws into the holes on the underside of the bracket bases and tighten with a screwdriver to fix the bracket stem into the bracket base.

Step 7

Push the cover caps into position on the bracket fronts.
